The damn phone's been ringing since the wee hours of the morning. Shermlock Jr. attends Indiana University in Bloomington.

Apparently he's given our home phone number to the IU Notify system and they've been graciously calling us to keep us apprised of the lockdown of IU because of two individuals absconding after have a knife fight with an acquaintance on campus property . The all-clear call came a few minutes ago when the IU Administrators determined that a knife fight among friends posed no danger to the campus computer at large.

If they're this touchy, I wonder what the IU Administrators will do on Halloween? Be careful what costumes you choose, kiddies. I'd shy away from going to your parties dressed as say, the traditional pirate or musketeer waving around your cutlass or foil. Or any costume that is complemented with a firearm.

I just finished reading another warm holiday story, this one about the cops shooting a dog in the owner's yard while the cops were searching for fugitives in the vicinity.

I can only draw from the large number of such incidents that this is somewhere in the police general policies and procedures: 'Dogs need to be shot. If you're out on a call, and there's a dog nearby, shoot it. This particularly pertains to raids or even visits to the wrong address.'

We can be grateful that they only use the taser on the mentally challanged, old women, and children. So far.

Peace Officers?

No. They're at best "law enforcement officers" who serve to confiscate money from citizens to fill the coffers of local and state government. And, of course, maintain their authority through thuggery, bullying, and general violence.

A customer standing in line at a west side Indianapolis auto parts store shot a suspected armed robber demanding cash, police said.

That's heartening. And the police response? Something like, "Yes, we are seldom able to make it to a robbery in progress so we appreciate the fact that citizens can legally defend themselves." Oh no. It's the usual:

"This is a rare occurrence, and I would encourage anyone who finds themselves in a position where a robbery may be occurring to actually comply with what the suspect is asking for. This is not typical. However, in this particular situation, it seems to have worked out for everyone involved,” [Indianapolis metro police spokeswoman Catherine] Cummings said.

So Ms. Cummings, if I should find myself in a more common occurrence and I'm armed I should still let the robbers herd me and the others into a back room where we'll likely be told to kneel and executed with a shot in the back of the head? And this will help the situation how?

What, there's no need for such a police presence at the Fair? I smell me some racism. I think the police should back off and stay out of the downtown and not hassle folks attending the Black Expo.
