Fa-fa-fa-fashion!

Say what you want about how far up Jim Irsay and the Simons' butt our own Mayor Bumblefuck is, he does take fashion seriously:

Tropical Storm Isaac

Used to be a hurricane. Tam predicted it wouldn't be much. She may be right. At least it's enough to wash the dog pee off my back deck.

Practice Test

Our local officials are in a hurry to say they're ready:

Indianapolis Says It Passed Super Bowl Snow Test

Sorry, boys. If an inch and a half of blowing snow "challenged road crews," you're fucked. I grew up in Michigan, went to grad school in Wisconsin, and lived in the hills of Pennsyltucky for five years. I've seen snow. This was a dusting. Keep hoping.

I'm dreaming. . .

I saw this:

Atlanta weather | Snow accumulations likely on Christmas Day

and thought of Tam. And laughed and laughed and laughed 'cause that's the sort of guy I am.

A Yankee.

Tuesday We Got More Snow

Another 3.5 inches of snow surprised folks here in Indianapolis on this last Tuesday, February 3rd. This morning it was -7 degrees F. At one point in my life I enjoyed Winter:

I don't any more. And Al Gore can kiss my cold, wind-chapped ass.

Kentucky on Ice, Part Two

It appears that more bloggers are focusing their attention on what's happening in Kentucky. I like this one:

Indy, Snow, and the Super Bowl

Today the Newspaper That Humps Jim Irsay's Leg has a good example of why I hold it in low regard:

Indy confident it could handle snow for 2012 Super Bowl

In typical 'Rah Rah!' fashion, the reporter repeats the statements of David Sherman, director of the Department of Public Works, who, "with calm confidence," said:
"We can handle it," he said, noting that snow on the ground could even add to the party atmosphere, "like at a ski resort."
Yeah. Right. Like a friggin' party in a ski resort parking lot 'cause that's what the Downtown and the IUPUI campus turn into every time it snows, even a little, before rush hour. Everyone leaves work early and all these Hoosier drivers never heard that gridlocking is illegal, much less damned rude and inconsiderate. You never see a cop directing traffic at key intersections or handing out tickets to these fidgets.* David Sherman should get out more when it snows.

Allison Melangton, a senior vice president at Indiana Sports Corp. is also quoted. She's in charge of local Super Bowl operations for that committee.
"I'm 100 percent confident that the city and DPW will have procedures and plans in place that will be 100 percent effective in keeping streets and sidewalks clear for the Super Bowl."
I wonder what those plans will be? Block off traffic from the Downtown if it's going to snow? By the way, she called that one in from Tampa.

*'Fidget' is a contraction of 'fucking' and 'idiot.'

New Ice Age: Action Needed!

Just checked the Jim Irsay And Other Fatcats Fan Club Bulletin and I see that they report we got 12.5 inches of snow.* Because of this and other phenomenon we're witnessing this season, I want to be first on record, using the same solid, irrefutable science and observational procedures that the Warmies use, to state that we are entering a new Ice Age and call on President Obama to lead the effort to reverse this catastrophe.

*They also report that our mayor, Greg Ballard is "“very satisfied” with the city’s efforts removing snow from the streets." He's the only one. F**kwit.

Update: More evidence via Powerline. I hope Saint Algore gets bit by a polar bear.

No two snowflakes are alike

If that's the case, then there's a shitload of uniqueness out there. There has to be when this happens:

Open Letter To Tam: First Robin

Dear Tam:

A few minutes ago I looked out the back door and saw a robin up in our crab apple tree in the back yard. Harbinger of Spring! Unfortunately he flew away before I could take his picture.

Nothing lost, though, as he was one sorry-looking sonofabitch.

Cheers,

Shermlock

Indy On Ice

While, as Dylan observed, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows," it doesn't hurt to see how Tam sees the weather. She gives us a picture of our weather in Indy today.

And I wonder if, what with I-465 and I-69 being closed for some time due to (anticipated) icy conditions, Governor Mitch decided that saving some highway budget money by not prepping the roads was more important than saving peoples' lives.

Cold? Save us, Saint Al!

Tam comments on the weather.

This ol' Michigan boy points out that she could have taken a wrong turn and moved to Houghton, Michigan. 9 months of winter and 3 months of hard sledding.

First Snowfall of the Year

Woke at my usual 6:00 AM to release Pumpkin and Pie (the chimp-dog-devils) into the backyard. Last night we had our first sticking snowfall and there appears to be an inch or two of wet snow on the ground. This was new to the dogs but they were out there running, sliding, and jumping around enjoying it.

Growing up in Michigan, going to school in Wisconsin, and teaching in Pennsylvania, I am very familiar with snow. And as they say, familiarity breeds contempt. I do not like snow now. As a kid, yes. As an older adult, no. Too much extra work and worries when it snows.

It will be interesting to see if that Southern Gal Tam has to anything say about this dusting of snow.

Ike Droppings

We had some Hurricane Ike leavings come through Indy today, mostly in the form of high winds and some rain. The Official Newspaper of the Indianapolis Colts reports a gust of 63 mph at the airport. Well, it must of come through here, too, as one of the blasted ash trees next to the street shucked another limb. What it mostly means for me is cutting the dang thing into small enough pieces so that the trash guys will pick it up. And they're picky.

Morning has broken. . .

When I was a young(er) man I thought my father crazy to get up in the wee hours of the morning, even on weekends when he didn't have to. But now that I'm old(er) I find that I enjoy the early morning quiet and calm.

I rise at 5:00 AM on weekdays and sleep in until 6:00 AM on weekends. And I necessarily must be up at 6:00 AM as that is the 'rise and shine' time for Inkem and Stinkem the Devil Dogs.

The last few days the weather here in Indy has been miserable for this ol' Michigan boy; hot and humid. It was even 80 degrees and humid at 6:00 AM! This morning, though, it was 62 degrees and pleasant when I freed the critters to do their thing in the back yard. And I can even prop the screen door open so they can come and go while I type this out.
