Today's "That Can't Be!"

NBC Admitted: No ‘Assault Rifle’ Used in Newtown Shooting

Then why the continued howls for an 'assault rifle' ban? Hmmm?

Taxes For Thee But Not For Me

Seems members of our Capital Improvement Board here in Indy get two free suite tickets to each Colts game. At that link Paul Ogden astutely asks, "My next question would be are the members of the CIB paying individual income tax on the free tickets they receive?" Hmmm. I hope someone is paying attention to this and drops a dime on 'em.

Son of Schadenfreude

Further discussion of the cut in teaching hours due to Obamacare:
"[T]his seems to fly in the face of the spirit of the ACA, something odd from a traditionally liberal organization. Not only will this keep more folks from getting health insurance, the pay cut will make it harder to afford it on your own."

Heard a rumor that the University will be limiting part-time faculty to a max of six credit hours per term, so they will not have to offer healthcare benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Has anyone else heard whether this is true or not?
While one of the directors of a program that hires a large number of adjunct faculty looks into the veracity of this, I note that such cuts have been reported in The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Huffington Post and other news sources. Considering the political persuasion of almost all my faculty colleagues and how most of them likely voted in the last two presidential elections, all I have to say is:

No sugar tonight in my . . .

As seen at the IU Hospital Cafeteria. Next to the donuts and sugar packs for coffee.
